Fugro Offshore Survey Vessel |
| Fugro Offshore Survey Vessel "IMPI" |
Now you might be thinking that Impi means something small, but you would be wrong. An Impi was a great fighting machine made up of thousands of Zulu Warriors that took on the might of the British armed forces. They were the mightiest army in all of Africa at the time.
8 meters is not small at all when you learn about Impi's power to survey the great depth of the ocean. And let's not forget that her Mother ship will always be close at hand. | | I will be doing inshore survey work along the African coast. | Here I am in a Cape Town harbour. But my life's journey started many months before this at Veecraft's offices at 1 Beacon Way, Beaconvale. |
.JPG) | .JPG) | Getting the first frames in just the right place is one of the most important aspects of building a good vessel. | This is my bow, just right for cutting through choppy waters along the coast of Africa. | | | | This is my transom beginning to take shape. | The Veecraft chaps giving me lots of attention. | | .JPG) | When I am complete, I will be one complete aluminium unit. All the welded aluminium is united in the welding process. So I am going to be very strong. | I am going to be painted so they need to insure that all my surfaces are smooth. As you can see I don't need much filling. | | .JPG) | | I am primed and ready for a few coats of red. | That was quick. Here I am in the water. | .JPG) | .jpg) | | I have many facilities to towing survey equipment. I even have a moon pool. | I have two diesel inboard engines and sterndrives. I will soon be with my mother ship. I can't wait to meet her and get working. |
