Seychelles
Air/Sea Rescue Fire Fighter The Department of Civil Aviation of Seychelles chose Cape Town based Veecraft Marine to build a 12-meter air/sea rescue vessel with fire fighting capabilities. The order was granted on the strength of Veecraft’s resent successful launch of their new high-speed twin hull landing craft with twin jet propulsion. The Seychelles vessel has a similar hull design powered by two VM 315kw turbo diesels driving two Hamilton Jet HJ241 units. She achieves 25-knots with her maximum displacement of 6000kg. Her lightweight displacement will be 4800kg. Besides being fast, she will be highly manoeuvrable. She will be able to rotate on her own axis and stop within a boat length.
Her fire fighting capabilities include a 215 litre foam tank, a fore deck fire hose stand pipe and one on the port side of the aft deck. A fire monitor is situated on the fly bridge. Seawater is utilised for fire fighting purposes.
The bridge has 360-degree horizon vision and the crew can see what is going on above her.
She is equipted with a Speich clear view screen and pantograph wiper. These will insure that she has good visibility in all conditions. When it comes to sea rescue, she can really shine. She could aid in the rescue of 325 people. How could she do that? By deploying five 65 person life rafts.
One of the novel features of the vessel is the stern staircase onto the aft deck. Jets are a natural choice for rescue vessels, as they pose no immediate danger to the people in the water. Even whales, dolphins and seals like them. Her manoeuvrability will allow her to be able to herd all the life rafts together and then tow them to the safety of the harbour. The vessel has been built to American Bureau of Shipping standards and will have SAMSA approval. Her vital statistics
